Bound by a common theme of indulgent festive foods, The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts has curated a collection of celebratory Easter packages inspired by local traditions at its properties in Amsterdam, Madrid, Phuket and Rome. From torrijas - Spain’s decadent take on French toast – and 20 percent off at The Pavilions Madrid; to a leisurely paasbrunch at The Pavilions Amsterdam, The Toren; to classic Easter egg-based fun and games at The Pavilions Phuket and The Pavilions Rome, The First Arte; Easter with The Pavilions this year is all about tasty traditional treats.
From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, spectacular Semana Santa parades – including the famous Cristo de Medinaceli procession, on Good Friday - draw huge crowds to the exuberantly decorated streets of Madrid. Another Semana Santa tradition, torrijas are a dish born of frugality - much like bread and butter pudding or pain perdu, but with an added spike of sherry. As well as benefitting from 20 percent off their accommodation, guests booking an Easter break of two or more nights at The Pavilions Madrid from 8-24 April will enjoy an extra warm welcome with complimentary torrijas awaiting them in their room. Prices start from €153 (approx. GBP129) per room per night including breakfast.
In the Netherlands, Easter celebrations are a family-focused affair including an extended breakfast (‘paasontbijt’) or brunch (‘paasbrunch’), with tables laden with delicacies like paasstol, an enriched bread laced with dried fruit and almond paste, pastries and egg-based dishes. At The Pavilions Amsterdam, The Toren, the Easter weekend package includes two nights’ accommodation, daily breakfast, a two-course dinner and a lavish traditional Easter brunch - plus a special celebratory welcome gift - from €219 (approx. GBP184) per person per night. To complete the Dutch Easter experience, guests can visit Keukenhof to see the world’s largest spring garden - home to more than 7 million flowers in over 100 varieties - in full bloom.
With the Vatican City at its heart, Easter in the Eternal City is renowned worldwide for its elaborate parades and celebratory masses led by the Pope, including on Palm Sunday in St Peter’s Square; Maundy Thursday in St Peter’s Basilica; and the famous Good Friday Mass, also in St Peter’s Basilica, followed by the ‘Via Crucis’ or ‘Stations of the Cross’ procession. Guests spending Easter at The Pavilions Rome, The First Arte can also try their luck at guessing how many Easter eggs are contained in the huge vase located in the hotel lobby, with daily prizes for the closest guess including an aperitivo at rooftop terrace bar Acquaroof and afternoon tea at sister hotel The Pavilions Rome, The First Dolce’s VELO restaurant.
Guests at The Pavilions Phuket can look forward to a cross-cultural double celebration, as Easter overlaps with Thailand’s most celebrated festival, Songkran, or Thai New Year. From 13-15 April, kids are encouraged to make a splash with a host of exuberant aquatic fun and games to mark the arrival of Songkran. The festivities continue into the Easter weekend with fun activities for kids including an egg hunt throughout the resort’s tropical gardens, Easter egg decoration and face painting, and their very own self-service ice cream station. On Easter Sunday, an East-meets-West poolside brunch at Firefly restaurant combines roasted spring lamb with a live BBQ grill of whole red snapper, succulent meats and fresh fish, alongside authentic Thai dishes and salads.
