The Maldives’ first permanent skydiving drop zone secures prestigious accreditation following spectacular launch with skydiving VIPs, world champions, and Red Bull Aerial Athletes
All-sunset, all-beach, all-inclusive Ifuru Island Maldives has been certified as an International Affiliate Drop Zone by the United States Parachute Association (USPA) following a rigorous full assessment, just one month after officially launching the destination’s first permanent skydiving drop zone.
The certification recognises skydiving providers and drop zones that uphold the USPA’s stringent safety standards, dedication to the highest standards of service and commitment to premium skydiving standards. It also cements Ifuru Island’s bond with the close-knit global skydiving community and showcases the continued expansion of the sport across international audiences.
Ifuru Island’s skydiving drop zone was created in collaboration with 21k-jump World Champion Will Penny and Skydive Maldives to make the most of the resort’s private airport, and offers a thrilling new perspective on the idyllic Indian Ocean destination for adrenaline-seeking guests.
On the USPA accreditation, World Champion freestyle skydiver and Skydive Maldives Ifuru Island Manager, Will Penny, commented, “Our core value at Skydive Maldives Ifuru Island is our safety standard. Coupled with knowledge sharing from the highly experienced team, this provides us with the platform to work at a world-class level. Our accreditation as a USPA International Affiliate Drop Zone truly aligns us with this shared vision.”
Island Vibe Boss, Rochelle Kilgariff, added, “Ifuru Island Maldives’ exceptional skydiving experiences offer something magical to guests and visitors to the island. The USPA accreditation is a true testament to the team’s hard work and dedication to providing exhilarating experiences and the utmost safety. We are excited to welcome more of the world to experience a truly unique skydiving experience over the Indian Ocean.”
The Ifuru Island Maldives drop zone was officially launched in December 2023, as an all-star lineup of skydiving champions, world record holders and aerial athletes took to the skies above the resort to perform an array of high-altitude feats that captivated the crowd on the ground. From professional skydiver, base jumper, and wingsuit pilot Fred Fugen – famed for his Red Bull stunts – performing jaw-dropping stunts with his wife Laurence, to Australian skydiver Richard Pym flying a 300sqm Maldives flag and 300sqm Ifuru Island flag through the skies in two impressive jumps, it was an awe-inspiring occasion.
Other skydiving stars and intrepid VIPs participating in the launch week included five-times world champion Raph Coudray; multiple world-record holders David Nimmo and Luis Lopez-Mendez; and Spanish multiple national champion Dani Gallego; as well as renowned Nepali mountaineer and hero of Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, Nimsdai Purja MBE.
