Marc’s career began with a foundation in culinary arts and hospitality management, shaping his enduring appreciation for exceptional food, thoughtful service and the small details that create lasting guest memories. Over the years, he has held senior leadership positions across the international hospitality sector, developing a leadership philosophy centred on people, performance and the delivery of meaningful guest experiences.
His relationship with the Maldives spans many years and includes leadership roles with Huvafen Fushi, PER AQUUM and Finolhu, where he led the resort from Christmas 2016 until Easter 2023. This experience has given Marc a deep understanding of the destination, its evolving luxury hospitality landscape and the international travel partners who play an important role in connecting guests with the Maldives.
Returning to the destination as General Manager of Amilla Maldives, Marc will focus on strengthening the resort’s commercial relationships, expanding its presence across key international markets and deepening engagement with tour operators, travel advisors, destination management companies and other strategic partners. His approach will include maintaining a visible presence within the global travel trade, working closely with industry partners and gaining first-hand insight into the changing expectations of luxury travellers.
At the resort, Marc will work alongside Amilla Maldives’ team to build on the island’s distinctive identity, further enhance the guest experience, invest in people and continue raising service standards while preserving the relaxed, personal atmosphere that makes Amilla Maldives unique.
“I’m tremendously happy to be back in the Maldives and especially to be joining Amilla. It is an island with enormous personality and enormous potential. My job now is to work with our team and our partners to build on what is already here, strengthen our connection with the market and make sure Amilla Maldives is very firmly in the conversation,” said Marc Reader, General Manager of Amilla Maldives.
For Marc, the essence of luxury hospitality has evolved throughout his career. While beautiful villas, exceptional restaurants and outstanding facilities remain important, he believes the most meaningful luxury is increasingly defined by something less tangible – time, space, freedom and the ability to experience a destination in one’s own way.
This philosophy aligns naturally with Amilla Maldives’ character. Located in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, the island is surrounded by an extraordinary marine environment, including its distinctive Blue Hole, while its established tropical landscape is defined by magnificent old banyan trees, lush vegetation and abundant birdlife. Together, these natural features create a sense of space and freedom, inviting guests to explore, reconnect or simply enjoy the unhurried rhythm of island life.
As a family man, Marc also recognises that luxury means different things to different travellers. Whether welcoming couples seeking time together, families sharing new experiences or multi-generational groups creating lasting memories, his approach is to ensure that hospitality creates opportunities rather than dictates how guests should spend their time.
Looking ahead, Marc’s vision is to build on Amilla Maldives’ existing strengths with confidence and purpose, ensuring the resort continues to evolve while remaining true to its individuality. Through a focus on its people, its partnerships and the freedom of the guest experience, he aims to strengthen Amilla Maldives’ connection with the global travel community and further establish the island as a distinctive choice for discerning travellers to the Maldives.
