As part of its annual Group-wide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) brought together 200 staff volunteers on 20 November 2025 to plant 220 mangrove seedlings and collect lightweight coastal waste at Tanjung Rhu, Carey Island. The initiative forms part of MAG’s ongoing CSR efforts, guided by the Group’s three pillars – humanitarian, environment, and education – and reflects its commitment to creating meaningful environmental and community impact, while giving employees opportunities to engage with local communities and contribute beyond their day-to-day work.
Volunteers from MAG’s three business segments – Airline Business, Loyalty & Travel Services, and Aviation Services – participated in a hands-on programme that combined environmental stewardship with cultural engagement. Beyond the mangrove planting, employees explored traditional craft techniques from Mah Meri artisans, including carving nyireh batu wood into expressive sculptures, weaving natural materials into atap roofing, and crafting decorative headpieces from coconut and palm leaves. These immersive activities offered meaningful insight into the community’s rich heritage, fostering deeper cultural appreciation and connection while creating tangible environmental and social impact.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, said, “Every action, from planting a seed to lending a hand, reflects our commitment to making a positive difference in the communities and environment we impact. Initiatives like this provide our workforce with the opportunity to contribute beyond their everyday roles, creating lasting value that supports both natural ecosystems and the wellbeing of local communities. Through these efforts, MAG continues to uphold Malaysian Hospitality, extending care and support not only in the skies, but also across the communities we serve.”
Beyond environmental initiatives, MAG continues to champion workforce diversity and inclusion. Since 2023, MAG has partnered with the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) to recruit Orang Asli employees across various roles, including nine as cabin crew members, as well as positions in Human Resources and the Leadership Executive Accelerated Programme (LEAP). To date, 15 Orang Asli employees are part of MAG’s workforce, reflecting the Group’s commitment to equal opportunity, inclusive growth and representation across varying levels of the organisation.
Through initiatives such as this, MAG demonstrates that sustainability goes beyond operational commitments — it is about creating tangible impact for the environment and the people who depend on it. By protecting natural habitats, supporting biodiversity, and supporting indigenous communities and cultural heritage, MAG contributes to multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15). Through these efforts, MAG continues to embody the spirit of Malaysian Hospitality while driving meaningful progress toward a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
